I have been asleep all day, (such is night work), but Anna was hard at work, in the garden, weeding the vegetable plot and strimming the grass.
She collected a few insects for me to look at which I'll detail on later posts, but whilst we were looking at them, we noticed these beauties climbing up the exterior kitchen wall. (Click any photo to enlarge).
These are "Thick Legged Flower Beetles", and can be didtinguished from other green beetles by their slender bodies and their "gaping elytra" (ie their wing cases don't quite cover their wings). They feed on a variety of flower pollens and are common on Ox-Eye Daisies.
The male (shown above) has bulging hind femora (used in mating) (correcty guessed by Anna!) whereas the female (shown below) does not exhibit these bulging legs.
Another nice chance to use the camera phone and learn a bit more about the insect life around us!
