Over the weekend, before spending 2 days with some friends, we managed to track down a vendor of (LIVE) Mealworms and Waxworms (the caterpillar of the Wax Moth) at a "Craft Village" near Wokingham. This "Village" has an exotic pet store called "Jurassic Pets" - selling anything from Snakes and crickets to Chameleons.
We bought a few tubs of Waxworms (lots of fat and protein for the nestlings) and Mealworms (mainly protein) and have left them in our home-made feeder - a sieve stuck to our fence. I think you'll like our Worm Feeder when I post some photos of it on "Blue-Grey".
The Tits certainly do! They seem to prefer the bigger, fatter, juicier Waxworms (less exoskeleton to munch through also), but are both flying to the Feeder to take a worm every 2 minutes or so.
The Tit will then fly to a safe perch to break up the Worm a little (they are too big for the nestlings at the moment) and then return to the box, to hand over another portion of food to all those hungry mouths...
We are going to have very healthy chicks!!!
