I think the young Blue Tits will definitely have fledged by this Wednesday now - they are 16 days old now (fledging usually happens around day 19), and becoming so vocal and restless now, even when Scargill and Anne are not on the perch.
I'll try and watch the entrance of the box over the next day or so, to see if the young fledglings are taking their first tentative looks out of the opening. Until now, their ENTIRE view of the world outside the box has been a small circle of sky!
Its going to be great when they do fledge - all our (and their parents') efforts will have been worth it, and then maybe Scargill can start to look after himself - maybe he'll grow his head feathers back?
Then, we think, it'll be quite sad. We will miss our Tits - we hope they all will stick around for a bit, giving us some photo opportunities, and to try and get this to happen, we may still stock the sieve with caterpillars and mealworms after the little ones have fledged!
I still don't know how many nestlings are inside the box, and will be quite upset if I miss the fledging!
