GREENFINCH
Another visitor to our Ethiopian Thistle-Feeder, in once again, downright miserable weather.
I don't mind sitting in a damp hide for hours, waiting for a bird to appear, but not in this weather...
So, this is the best I can do, photo-wise, for the time being - this one was once again taken from inside the house, at a distance of over 100', with no support - through a rain soaked window.
This is one of the Greenfinches that regularly sit on our fences. I hadn't seen one visit the feeder until this morning.
Greenfinches are commonly thought of as the 'bullies' of any feeder or table - powerfully built, stocky finches, like the Bullfinch, but with moss green plumage and obvious yellow flashes on their wings (although not as 'in-your-face' as the Goldfinches).
I remember when I was a boy, we had plenty of (nesting) Greenfinches at 'Rathmore', the family home, and they did act in a bullying fashion in that wonderful garden for birds.
