Anna and I think the little Blue Tits in the box, (however many there are) may well fledge EARLIER than next wednesday now.
We were both sitting near the box this afternoon, with Scargill sitting on the fence next to us, looking and sounding very agitated, with one of our Mealworms in his beak.
He was hopping about the fence, looking up at the hole (about 9' from him), and calling constantly.
It was as if he was calling the baby birds outof the box for their next meal - at least, that is exactly what it looked like.
I remarked to Anna (who suggested the above hypothesis) that whilst this may well be the case, Scargill seems to be far worse at everything regarding the raising of the chicks, than his 'mrs', (Anne), so I'd prefer it if she called them out - and they might too!
NB. That's not to say Scargill is crap at raising his chicks - he's been working like a Trojan over the past few weeks (witness the state he's in on the photos!), but it has always been the case that Anne is higher up in the pecking order regarding entrance to the box etc...
So no sexist comments please!
As you know, I'm on nights at the moment, so getting photos of the baby birds fledging may be difficult, as I'll probably be in bed! I'll see what I can do - we wouldn't want to miss it after all this time!
