There are many species of this glossy, speckled-wing type of Cranefly in the UK, and they are always found with their wings held flat along their back, at rest. Found this one by the boiler vent on the exterior wall and identified it via the excellent bugsandweeds.co.uk site (now a link with "Blue-Grey").
These Craneflies are found all year, and prefer the cover of woodland or hedges...
